Guide: restore sharpness with Real-ESRGAN in the browser
Stretching a pixelated image in an editor only enlarges the blocks. Real-ESRGAN analyzes the photo and reconstructs plausible detail — edges, skin texture, text.
Set a max resolution (HD, Full HD, 4K…) and how many enhancement cycles to run. Each cycle reprocesses at the same target size — re-uploading the same file will not grow resolution without limit.
Use Enhance again to refine the current result with the same settings. It does not replace pro restoration (scratches, stains, color), but helps thumbnails, blurry memes, and small scans.
Step by step
- Quality, resolution, and cycles — PNG, JPG, WebP, or BMP up to 12 MB. Start with Fast + Full HD + 2 cycles; add cycles or Best quality if it still looks soft.
- Wait for model and cycles — The bar shows the current cycle (e.g. 2 of 3). First run downloads Real-ESRGAN; later runs use cache.
- Compare and refine — Check side by side. For more sharpness at the same size, click Enhance again instead of re-uploading the original.
- Download the PNG — Save at your chosen preset size. View at 100% zoom to judge sharpness.
